Surrey Youth Games Epsom Golf Club has been instrumental in the inclusion of golf for the first time in the Surrey Youth Games. Epsom & Ewell Council approached the Club about taking a number of young recruits between the ages of 12 and 14 who had not played golf before and teaching them the rudiments through a modified version of the game called ‘Golf Extreme’. David Franklin and Stuart Walker took on the task which comprised 5 one hour lessons to the 15 recruits from several schools. At the end of the coaching sessions five boys and one girl were selected to represent Epsom & Ewell against ten other district teams. It says something for the quality of our coaching that at the games played at the impressive University Sports Park Guildford on 20 June the Epsom & Ewell team came out in the gold medal position winning seven of the ten games played. Epsom continues to be active in the community through David and volunteers and we are currently holding Tri-golf sessions in Cheam Common Primary School as part of their sports activity afternoons. At the Awards Ceremony on 30th July, David Franklin was presented with a Shield for Epsom Golf Club for the most supportive club (in the Epsom Borough) to the games.Well done David and thanks for all your hard work, Roll Up; Roll Up; Roll Up: Sunday: 1.30pm (Finish on Sunday 7th March 2010 and start again on Sunday 7th November 2010) Tuesday: 4.30pm (Start on Tuesday 30th March 2010 and ends on Tuesday 19th October – except first Tuesday of the month when coaching will take place from 4.45pm-5.30pm.
